Transportation and Logistics

The transportation and logistics sector is recognized as a major contributor to climate change. In the United States, the transportation sector is responsible for more than 28% of total GHG emissions (EPA 2005). Growth in GHG emissions from the U.S. transportation sector increased 32% from 1990 to 2005 — faster than any other industry sector.

Many new initiatives and technologies are emerging focusing on fuel efficiency including hybrid, electric and fuel-cell vehicles. Other initiatives that are currently in development focus on reducing idling time, green procurement strategies where the most fuel efficient vehicles are purchased and fleet management approaches resulting in more efficient use of resources in order to reduce fuel cost and GHG emissions.

Transportation projects have the potential to create double dividend benefits for organizations such as fuel cost savings and GHG emission reductions.

ClimateCHECK actively contributes to the development of GHG emission reduction methodologies for the transportation sector. In addition, ClimateCHECK team members have been involved in a variety of transportation projects including municipal transit systems, plug-in hybrid vehicles and electric vehicles, and customized GHG calculators for air, sea, and ground freight transportation. In these engagements, ClimateCHECK demonstrated experience and expertise in developing the quantification approaches according to GHG accounting principles to create accurate, transparent and credible results.

ClimateCHECK has an extensive network of transportation and automotive experts from which to draw the required technical expertise required to develop high quality GHG quantification methodologies.
