ISO releases new publication on GHG standards and schemes – Tom Baumann, CEO ClimateCHECK principal author.

ISO releases new publication on GHG standards and schemes – Tom Baumann, CEO ClimateCHECK principal author.

ISO has just released a new publication “GHG schemes addressing climate change – How ISO standards help” (54 pages).  The principle authors are Tom Baumann (CEO ClimateCHECK and GHGMI Co-founder) and Anja Kollmuss of the Stockholm Environment Institute.  For the past 10 years, ISO has been developing GHG standards (e.g. ISO 14064, 14065 and others, www.iso.org) and formed relationships with many leading GHG initiatives.  The publication provides information to potential users of GHG standards and programmes, covering the following issues:

*Overview of the climate change context including a map of available GHG standards, as well as those currently in development

*Information on how GHG standards, such as ISO 14064, can provide the tools for implementing climate mitigation and adaptation strategies

*The future of GHG standards and how they can promote a faster up-take of new green technologies and low-emission practices

*Opportunities to enhance current GHG standards and standards development

*Proposed changes that would address challenges and help maximize the effectiveness of GHG standards in moving the world to a more sustainable future.

ClimateCHECK is a recognized leader in the development of GHG standards and is involved in several GHG standards development initiatives in Canada and internationally.  GHGMI continues to participate in many standards development initiatives, including ISO TC207 SC7 (GHG), GHG Protocol Initiative, and Climate Disclosure Standards Board, to name a few examples.  GHGMI continues to advance professional standards for the practice of GHG management, including GHGMI’s Code of Conduct, development of professional competency standards and the Peer-reviewed journal GHG Measurement and Management.

The new ISO publication can be downloaded free of charge at www.iso.org/iso/pressrelease?refid=Ref1390
