ClimateCHECK launches Interactive Standards and its web-based standards solution the Standards Center.

Collaborative Standards-based Eco-system Solution advances accessibility, productivity and accountability to catalyze the new economy.

Ottawa, Canada – October 18, 2010 – Interactive Standards, www.interactivestandards.com, launches its web-based standards solution the Standards Center.

Standards are an essential tool to support and facilitate science and technology, business and governance decision making, as well as consumer choices. The areas of sustainability, clean technologies and environmental goods and services need to create a great number of standards in very little time. Product standards, life cycle oriented standards, program standards, personnel standards, and technology standards are a few examples. The typical standards development process takes several years to produce a single standard. In addition, it is not unusual for a single standard to cost $1 Million or more.  Clearly the current system is unacceptable for rapidly changing global systems and the new economy.  The outlook is daunting for all stakeholders to create, review, update and implement the thousands of existing and new standards, protocols, methodologies and other standards-based documents and processes within a harmonized and interoperable system that is more efficacious.

“Our expertise comes largely from the world of clean technologies and environmental goods and services where there is a monumental task ahead of us to create a new infrastructure of tools, knowledge and experts to support these markets in the new economy,” said Tom Baumann, CEO and co-founder. “To accomplish that task,  a new web-based eco-system solution to enable ‘faster, cheaper and better’ ways to develop and employ standards, experts and intelligent standards-based content is needed to support markets to proceed with ever-increasing credibility and to achieve triple bottom line results – economic, environmental and social.”

Based on significant experience in creating standards and related solutions, the experts at Interactive Standards are uniquely positioned to develop a new intelligent web-based solution that will significantly improve the time, cost, credibility and utility of standards. Leveraging the expertise at Interactive Standards, the Standards Center web-based software provides a means to engage experts, build standards or standardized documentation, engage the community, apply the standards for reporting and training, as well as auditing performance claims of conformance to a standard.  The system appeals to a wide range of stakeholders including industry associations, standards associations, academia, professional associations, government programs, service providers, as well as to suppliers and buyers – the main users of standards.

Some of the benefits to users of the system are: significant reduction in time and costs to develop standards with productivity tools and avoided travel; improved access to markets for products that can demonstrate transparency of performance claims and conformance to standards; a more transparent system for expert recognition; and ultimately, and most importantly, better standards - driving value and responsibility into the marketplace.

The Standards Center is already in use by industry associations such as the Canadian Fertilizer Institute, environmental protection member-based organizations such as Ducks Unlimited Canada and the Canadian Wildlife Federation, professional associations such as the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers and innovative clean technology companies.
